Our History

This organization is committed to winning the world for Christ through evangelism and ministry outreach.

Our History

Rooted in prayer and ignited by the vision of Apostle Bennie L. Kelly, the Holy Deliverance Church of God has spent more than five decades growing, reaching, and thriving as a Spirit-led fellowship. What began as a humble prayer band has blossomed into a dynamic organization of churches across the nation and abroad—united in purpose, driven by faith, and committed to transforming lives through the power of Jesus Christ.

The Early Years

In the early 1970s, Evangelist Bennie L. Kelly founded the Revival Team, a prayer band that traveled from house to house interceding for families and communities. During each gathering, Evangelist Kelly faithfully read the Word of God and expounded on the Scriptures as directed by the Holy Spirit.

The Revival Team grew quickly—especially among young people who were searching for a genuine relationship with God. Evangelist Kelly poured her heart into these youth, ensuring they were rooted in church services and revivals. Her car was often filled to capacity as she transported every young person who desired to attend. She never turned anyone away.

With a schedule that included nightly services and multiple services on Sundays, Evangelist Kelly remained steadfast in her mission to inspire and strengthen those who followed her. Signs of revival, spiritual hunger, and transformation were evident everywhere she ministered.

The Revival Team Becomes a Movement

As the Revival Team continued to flourish, God instructed Evangelist Kelly to “fence in the lost sheep of Israel.” Obeying this divine direction, she traveled to Laurinburg, North Carolina in 1977, where Miracle Temple Church was birthed.

This first church began in a small one-room building on Produce Street with only nine members—five of whom were children. Though the building lacked the usual amenities of a church, the presence and power of God filled every service. Members often had to carpool to the local store to use the restroom, yet the Word of God drew crowds so large that people stood outside the building to hear the message. Worship sometimes overflowed into the surrounding fields. Many were slain in the Spirit and had to be carried to their cars as the Holy Ghost moved mightily.

Foundation and Relocation

Soon afterward, the Lord directed Pastor Kelly to move the growing congregation to Fayetteville, North Carolina. Led by the Holy Spirit, she purchased the former sanctuary of Comfort Presbyterian Church. Miracle Temple Church relocated to 1070 Winslow Street, where the ministry continued to prosper and lay stronger foundations.

Growth and Organization

Although functioning for years as a spiritual covering for many, the Holy Deliverance Church of God was officially chartered on March 25, 1980. Shortly thereafter, Faith Deliverance Temple HDCOG began under the leadership of Pastor Veorah B. Davis.

In 1984, Southern Christian—now Christian Family Worship Center—joined the organization. The establishment of Miracle Temple Holy Deliverance Church of God, Liberia marked the beginning of the organization’s international ministry.
